THOMAS O’Ware is keen for a crack at Championship side Rangers in this season’s Petrofac Training Cup.

Morton earned their place in today’s second round draw with a narrow 1-0 victory over Lowland League champions Spartans on Saturday.

Like the first round, the next stage of the competition will also be regionalised, with the Cappielow club set to face one of Berwick, Rangers or Hibs, Stranraer, Hearts, Albion Rovers, Livingston, or Clyde.

But after missing the historic League Cup win over Celtic last term, O’Ware has his fingers crossed that the Ton will be paired with the Ibrox outfit this time around.

He told the Tele: “I was obviously out for the Celtic game with my injury so would love to get Rangers today.

“I know a lot of people want to go on a run — and if we do that would be brilliant — but with us missing out on that league, I think it would be good for us to get a big tie like Rangers.

“Ibrox would be good, but we played Celtic away last year and we’ve not really played a big team at home since I’ve been here, so I wouldn’t mind a home tie.

“The atmosphere at Cappielow would be brilliant.” Today’s draw will be held at 3.30pm and can be viewed live on the competition’s official website at www.petrofactrainingcup.com
