TRIALIST Hermann Kabasele will not be signed before today’s League Cup tie against Berwick Rangers, with the striker’s move to Morton hinging on him passing a medical.

DR Congo Under-21 cap Kabasele has impressed manager Jim Duffy in bounce matches against Celtic and an English touring select, as well as in training sessions.

However, the 22-year-old former Evian hitman could not train on Thursday due to a knee problem, and the Ton boss will have the injury fully assessed before committing to a contract.

Duffy said: “We want to hold off because Hermann has arrived injured and that’s something we have to look at. Like any player, he will have to undergo a medical.

“At this moment at time, we are looking to get the injury assessed in more detail before we decide what’s happening.

“Ideally, we were trying to get him in and get the paperwork completed before today, but the player arrived injured and we weren’t aware of that. So we have to see exactly where the injury is at.” With just teenage forwards David McNeil, Jon Scullion and Aidan Ferris available for selection, Duffy is contemplating starting with defender O’Ware in a striking role.

He added: “Playing Thomas up front again is a consideration, of course. To be honest, Craig McPherson and I had discussed it before the Spartans game.

“We knew we only had one out-and-out striker, one focal point, which was Andy Barrowman, as David McNeil plays just off the front.

“We were thinking about who would be the best option if we needed to change later on in the game, perhaps in the last 20 minutes, if Andy was tired.

“We decided that would be Tom; the change just came a lot earlier than we really wanted it to.”
