MORTON midfielder Reece Hands has vowed to make amends for his hat-trick of horror misses against Alloa Athletic by hitting the net on a regular basis this season.

The 20-year-old Englishman was presented with three excellent opportunities to score in the second half of Saturday’s Petrofac Cup quarter-final.

Despite failing to convert as the Ton exited the competition, Hands sought solace in the fact he was getting into promising positions and insisted he remained as confident as ever in his ability to get goals from midfield.

He said: “It was a tight game, end to end, and so it was disappointing to concede with what was virtually the last kick of the game.

“The defence was good for large parts of the match. It was a big improvement on Forfar where we conceded sloppy goals. I’m obviously disappointed with the chances I missed today, but I’m going to try not to dwell on it too much.

“The bonus is that I’m getting into those positions, the next step is to start putting them away. I know I’m capable of doing it.

“One fell for me at Forfar last week and I stuck it home.

“But I snatched at a few today and was unlucky with one of them.

“I was there in the positions to put the prize away but didn’t manage to do it. With the last one I put into the side-netting, I should have let it run across my body a bit more. On another day that maybe goes in.

“It would have been nice to have scored one of the early chances and I could have built on it if I had just scored that first one. Obviously today it just wasn’t meant to be.

“Maybe it’s just a case of trying to get back into it again. I’ve not really started many games this year; I’ve come on as a sub in a few games.

“It was good to be getting the chances but it was definitely disappointing not to finish them because I think I’m better than that. I’m confident that I’ll stick away the next few chances I get.”
