GREENOCK footballer Craig Molloy says he was delighted to be told he would be out injured for between four and six weeks — as he feared he would be missing for five MONTHS.

Brechin City skipper Molloy was subbed after 44 minutes of Saturday’s 3-1 win over hometown team Morton with suspected medial ligament damage.

The 28-year-old had that confirmed by the Brechin physio Richard Walker on Tuesday night and was also told he faces over a month on the sidelines.

But midfielder Molloy revealed the news was music to his ears due to the fact he knew from previous experience that the prognosis could have been far worse.

He told the Tele: “I saw our physio at training on Tuesday night.

“He said it’s a grade II and reckons I’ll be out for four to six weeks, which I was delighted about.

“I had surgery on my medial ligament two years ago after rupturing it and was out for five months after that.

“My initial fear was that it might be the same again and I was struggling with the idea of going through that rehab again.

“I was down for a couple of days there, if I’m honest, thinking it was going to be months.

“So I’m chuffed with what the physio’s told me.

“With it being about four weeks, it means I might miss only three or four games rather than most of the season near enough.

“The physio actually said that coming off right away helped me and that if I played on I might have done a bit more damage.

“I’ve started doing some light rehab, some light cycling in an attempt to build up my leg, and I’m hoping to be back in a month. But if it has to be six weeks it has to be six weeks.” Although he has been left relieved with the outcome, Molloy admitted the injury took some of the shine off his side’s win against the Ton.

Molloy, whose day job involves working with kids in care for Inverclyde Council, added: “I was obviously happy we got the result because we’d lost our last two games.

“But I had some of my mates and family up at the game for a day out.

“I was travelling back down with them and the injury put a bit of a dampener on it. I was gutted about that.

“But the result was the most important thing, because if we’d gone three games without a victory it would’ve been far from ideal.

“It’s a cracking result for us against a full-time team.

“We’re aiming for the play-offs this season and by winning we got ourselves back on track.”
