STEFAN Milojevic reckons Morton’s four consecutive clean sheets aren’t down to the defence doing anything differently but rather due to keeping things the same.

Ton have managed successive shutouts in home matches against Airdrie and Forfar Athletic, and then in back-to-back victories over the Diamonds at the Excelsior Stadium.

And Serbian centre-half Milojevic believes a significant part of the reason they have tightened up is that the back four are now beginning to develop a real understanding after four months playing together.

He told the Tele: “We have had some good results recently.

“I think the last three have been some of the best of the season, and not just because of the results but because of our play.

“We have played very nice football and won.

“And we have kept clean sheets as well, so it is good times just now.

“For the defenders, clean sheets are very important.

“It’s like with strikers when they score. For us a clean sheet is like scoring a goal.

“It’s been very good for us and keeps our confidence up.

“Is there a reason behind our run of clean sheets?

“I think that we are playing at a better level now and that is because we were a new team before.

“We needed time to gel, to play together and get to know each other, and now I believe we are how we need to be. I think this is a reason.

“The back four needs to be like one player.

“We don’t keep a clean sheet because I play good or Sean [Crighton] has played good, or Ricki [Lamie] or Lee [Kilday] or Gats [Derek Gaston].

“We are one and everybody has to do his job to keep a clean sheet — so you need to know your mate playing next to you.

“Obviously you need time for this. If you meet a person for the first time in your life, you need months to build a good understanding on the pitch.

“We have had four [clean sheets].

“It’s not just one or two, so we have shown what we are capable of as a defence and as a team.

“And now we have four we are greedy for more.

“To achieve this, we must keep the concentration levels high.

“To me that is the most important thing.” The 23-year-old also feels that their defensive efforts have been aided by manager Jim Duffy’s decision to deploy Thomas O’Ware in midfielder.

He added: “I think the gaffer’s decision to play Tam in midfield has been a good one.

“He did it for the first time against Dunfermline and it worked.

“He has done very well and he has helped us defensively.

“For me and for Sean [Crighton] it has been brilliant, very good support in front of us. We look after Tam and he looks after us.

“People might see him as a centre-back playing in midfield but I also think when Tam has the ball he has done well too.

“He builds the game and is a very good player.”
