MORTON boss Jim Duffy acclaimed Lee Kilday’s first career goal as a world-class finish that would have been fit to grace any stage in football.

The unassuming defender played down the quality of the strike, stating it was a fluke hit with his weaker foot.

But manager Duffy was in no doubt it was a fantastic effort and also praised right-back Kilday for the relentless attacking intent that helped put Stenhousemuir to the sword on Saturday.

He told the Tele: “It was a rare occasion for Lee to score.

“He’s actually managed to get in behind a few times this season and hasn’t quite managed to execute it.

“But his first goal was a fantastic finish — a top, top class finish at any level of football. And his second one was a great piece of football.

“There was good link-up play in the build-up and he showed great composure to score. And he could well have gotten his hat-trick.

“With his chance in the second half, it was a great flick on from Stefan [McCluskey]. Lee had loads of time and should have taken a wee touch.

“But by that time I think he was a wee bit tired. If you think about it, that was in the closing stages of the game and he was still getting up into the opposition’s penalty box.

“A lot other full-backs would have sat back but we wanted to keep trying to play and keep going forward and always felt as if we could get that third goal.”
