Boxer's delight at silver medal
A BOXER from Port Glasgow secured a silver medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games.
Talented fighter Grant Quigley, 17, who is a member of Port Glasgow Victoria Boxing Club, represented Team Scotland at the weekend.
He came away with the medal after competing at the games on the Isle of Man.
Grant narrowly missed out on a gold medal by just one point in the final, where he faced young Australian Dylan Hardy.
The two-time British and four-time Scottish boxing champion was beaten 15-16 in the middleweight competition in a bout which could have been won by either fighter.
He convincingly brushed aside competitors from New Zealand and India en route to the final.
Despite the result not going his way, Grant is ecstatic to have bagged a silver medal.
Grant, who spoke to the Tele from the Isle of Man, said: "It was an amazing experience - it was really fantastic.
"Winning silver is a great achievement. My friends and family are really proud and they enjoyed the experience and helped cheer me on.
"Now I will keep training, stay fit, and train even harder and enter some senior competitions with Scotland."
