GREEN FOR GO: A number of junior and adult competitors who recently took part in the Eric Blaikie trophy at Whinhill Golf Club.
THE 2012 Whinhill Golf Club Eric Blaikie trophy was won by the team of gent member John McLaughlin and junior member Andrew Todd.
The duo defeated the rest of the field with an excellent greensome net score of 62.5.
The competition involved both gent and junior members, competiting as two-man teams in a greensomes format.
It is a competition that is eagerly looked forward to by both gents and juniors.
The trophy was, as usual, contested in a fair and sporting manner and it is hoped that the juniors will have benefited from the tips they were given by the more senior members.
The competition also further enhances relations within the club.
This year's competition has seen many younger members of the junior section compete over nine holes for the first time - with many quality shots hit by these talented youngsters.
However, the winning team got off to a dodgy start with a double bogey six on the opening hole - before steadying the ship and posting three birdies on their scorecard at the 3rd, 12th and 17th holes.
Andrew is one of the Whinhill Golf Club junior section's most promising young golfers, with his handicap just recently being cut to single figures.
He is now able to play in medal competitions and is a regular in the junior section team.
John's role in this victory is very well deserved due to the amount of work he puts into the club in his role on the match and handicap committee - and his constant support for the club's junior section.
John, in his speech, was quick to praise the efforts of his partner who he described as having a great golf game and attitude.
In second place was the team of the on-form Joe Blyth and the ever-improving Liam Keir with a net score of 64.
Joint third place went to three teams, in the form of Eric Blaikie Jnr and Scott Cummings, Colin Coventry and Lauren Coventry and the brother and sister combination of Robbie Wilkie and Elle Wilkie - all with impressive net scores of 64.5.
Special mention should be paid to Dylan Alexander on completing 18 holes for the first time in his young golfing career and the three junior girls who took part in the competition - Jan Adams, Lauren Coventry and Elle Wilkie.
The standard of golf shown throughout the day was of a very high quality, with many pairings returning scores under par.
Congratulations go to John and Andrew and to all who took part in the competition.
