A MAGICAL mid-round hot streak saw Greenock golf star Chris Doak get off to a good start in the Qatar Commercial Bank Masters yesterday.

Chris is five shots off the lead after posting an impressive opening round of 69 in Doha.

Teeing off at the 10th hole due to the tournament draw, a steady start saw him notch up six straight pars.

Doak then enjoyed a brilliant run as he racked up four consecutive birdies — including a terrific two on 17.

After the turn he dropped a shot on the third but that was the solitary slip on his scorecard, leaving him three under for his day’s work.

At the close of play Chris was tied for 27th place, alongside fellow Scot Stephen Gallacher and a clutch of other players.

South Africa’s George Coetzee is setting the pace in the $2.5m tourney after the first round.

His sizzling 64 leaves him sitting eight under and one shot clear of the chasing pack.
