GRANT ‘the Tank’ Quigley earned a fantastic win over Tommy Philibin of Edinburgh in the Scottish semi-finals at Scotstoun.

Grant dominated this fight over 3x3-minute rounds at a high pace.

The Port puncher won every round with explosive head and body shots from round one.

He was unstoppable, coming forward at every opportunity and throwing plenty shots.

The tough Edinburgh fighter did well to stay on his feet with the heavy body shots he was taking. This was by far the fight of the day and the crowd was going crazy during the bout.

It was Grant’s first championship at light-heavyweight and proved he can move up and fight in the heavier division.

This contest nearly didn’t happen after Grant was ill for 10 days in the build-up, with bad sickness and losing almost 5kg in weight. It was only six days before his fight that the illness cleared up, so his pre-fight preparation was not ideal.

Grant trained the best he could through this but had no sparring.

Port Glasgow Victoria Boxing Club are looking forward to Grant being even stronger and fitter in the finals at Emirates Arena in Glasgow on 28 March with Commonwealth Games selection at stake.

He fights Scott Forest, who won a youth world championship silver medal last year. Forest is a much taller opponent this time but will find Grant a difficult fighter.

Port Glasgow Victoria Boxing Club is going to run a bus to the final on 28 March, with tickets starting at £15 to £30 ringside. The club are hoping that as many fight fans can come along and support the local boxer in his Commonwealth Games bid. Contact Kenny on 078105 45860.
