Gold triumph for Port pair
TWO judo stars from Port Glasgow struck gold when they represented Scotland recently.
Kirsty Rodgers and John McFetrich, both members of Boglestone Judo Club, competed in the British Judo National Team Championships on Saturday.
Both the senior ladies and men's teams, of which Kirsty and John were part, fought their way to the top to bring home gold medals.
Kirsty, 22, told the Telegraph: "The junior mens team also won gold as did the junior girls team.
"It was a fantastic achievement for Scotland in the build up to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and also a great opportunity for John and myself to shine and raise our profile." Kirsty is ranked as best country for her weight group and is hoping to compete in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, along side club mate John, 22.
The successful pair have scooped a clutch of medals over the years to reinforce their reputations as two of the countries most promising you judo stars.
Kirsty, a student nurse, recently travelled to Japan where she took part in training sessions with the masters of Judo.
She fights in the over 78 kilo weight category and John in the under 100 kilo group.
