WELLINGTON Park BC recently held its last Open Competition for the 2015 bowling season.

The club hosted 12 teams of five players in the top five event, a favourite among many bowlers across Renfrewshire.

Teams from Fairlie & Barrhead attended and the day’sbowling was played in great spirit with a lot of camaraderie amongst teams and clubs.

Showery weather at lunch never stopped play nor the enjoyable atmosphere around the club.

After five games of play over two sections of six teams the group runner-ups and winners would qualify for a semi-final showdown.

Game one (Single & Fours) was contested between Wellington/Barrhead v Wellington/Gourock, the winners being Wellington/Barrhead.

Game two was played under the same format and would be contested between Rankin Park & Wellington/Bogleha/GourockPK/Kilmacolm.

In a closely thought game the quadruple mixed team progressed to the final to play Wellington/Barrhead.

The final would be played over seven ends and played Pairs & Triples. With some fantastic bowls on show and bowls changing heads more times than not the games would go to the wire. However, the quadruple mixed team of Martin Woodrow, Craig Bence, Davy Palmer, Stewart McIntyre and Peter Johnstone, pictured above, would claim victory and be crowned the Top5 champions for 2015.

The club would like to thank everyone who took part in the competition and kitchen and bar staff for their hard-work throughout the day.

A special thanks to Gage Ecosse Joinery LTD who was our main sponsor.
