FORT Matilda beat the big freeze on Saturday and Wanderers almost caught leaders Whitecraigs cold before slipping to defeat.

The Greenock side had revenge on their mind for the visit of Whitecraigs, after the 62-3 demolition job by the Newton Mearns side in the third National Two fixture, back in September.

Dave McVey"s team has gone through a plethora of changes since that anomoly, with only half of the players who played that day at West Lodge starting at the weekend.

Captain Chris Clark was still a big miss, but with some re-jigging Wanderers looked adept in the backs with Kieran Smith filling the full back role, and Leigh Tyley forming a strong centre partnership with Brendan McGroarty.

Wanderers got the action underway and, like the previous week at Glasgow Accies, fired into a first-minute lead with a Kieran Smith penalty.
