Wanderers left waiting for next clash
Greenock Wanderers' much anticipated match with bogey side Lasswade was postponed on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch.
Vice president John McDougall, and fellow committee members, carried out a pitch inspection at 9am and after much consideration, they decided to cancel the match on the grounds of player safety.
McDougall said: "The pitch had recovered well from the overnight frost but several large areas, particularly in centre midfield, were boggy.
"When we inspected the pitch, our feet sank into the mud and it was up over our ankles.
"Clearly, players could have risked serious injury in these conditions.
"As well as this, the respective packs would have had extreme difficulty at the set scrum trying to keep steady at the engagement.
"We also had to consider the travelling arrangements for our visitors Lasswade, who were heading through from Bonnyrigg."
The fixture will be rearranged for later in the season.
Wanderers still have six league matches to play with three of them at Fort Matilda.
On 3 March, Kirkcaldy are the visitors, and then on 24 March, Haddington drop by on league business.
The Lasswade game will be rescheduled to one of the SRU's dedicated stand-by dates which will be notified to both clubs in due course.
With the Six Nations International Championship due to start next weekend, the Wanderers aim to keep busy by arranging some friendly matches to ensure they are not out of action for too long.
A fixture will be arranged ahead of their next league game against table toppers Howe of Fife on 18 February.
Club members and supporters are urged to keep up-to-date with arrangements via the club website.
Wanderers Colts managed to get their game of and a friendly fixture was arranged against Hamilton at Clydeview Academy's all weather pitch.
The Colts were beaten 28-0 and a match report on the game will appear in the Telegraph later in the week.
