GREENOCK Wanderers reserves continued their outstanding and unbeaten run of form at Whitecrook on Saturday where they enjoyed their ninth league win in a row against Clydebank.

Having comfortably disposed of their opponents at Fort Matilda last weekend, the locals were expecting a tough examination in the return fixture.

As it transpired, Wanderers dominated large segments of the match and the seven-try romp was just reward for their superiority.

A brace of tries each for Gregor Fletcher, Aidan Crossan and Kyle McCabe and a single for Martin Rainey, accounted for Wanderers' seven touchdowns with the outstanding score of the match coming just prior to the half-time break.

Man-of-the-match Fraser Chamberlain made a rampaging run from the halfway line that took play deep into Clydebank territory.

When eventually halted, he offloaded in the tackle to support runner Andy Love and he fed Crossan who breezed in at the corner.

For Wanderers, it was a competent 80-minute display with Chamberlain and Love particularly prominent in open play and the backline looking dangerous every time they got possession.

Coach Jimmy McKenna said: "I'm really pleased with the overall performance and, at last, we realise we can do real damage to our opponents by sticking to our expansive game plan and by avoiding being drawn into a forward battle.

"We have a lot of good quality players in the team and, as well as doing well in our own league, they are giving the selectors food for thought by pushing hard for a top team place." Wanderers reserves have no fixture next weekend but return to action with a rearranged league game against Cambuslang at Fort Matilda on Saturday 24 November.
