PORT Glasgow couple James and Jeanette Knox met at a church youth club and developed a bond which will be celebrated tomorrow on the day of their golden wedding.

Both are originally from Greenock, James lived in Stafford Road and Jeanette, nee Wells, in Chester Road. They married in St Ninian"s Church, Larkfield.

They were active members of the church youth fellowship, of which James was the leader.

The couple have lived in Marloch Avenue, Port Glasgow, for nearly 40 years and previously stayed in Cairn Terrace, Clune Brae.

James spent most of his married life with AMP where he arranged many social events over the years. Jeanette also worked with the company until they retired 12 years ago.

At tomorrow"s family party the couple will be joined by son Gordon, 48, a chef who lives in Carnoustie, his wife Elizabeth and their three children - Claire, Stewart and Ailsa.

Their daughter Yvonne Inglis, who is 44 today, and her husband, Graham, will also be there.

They moved from Greenock to Limoges, France, last year where the couple own a small chambre d"hotel (bed and breakfast establishment).

Jeanette Knox has two sisters living in Greenock - Margaret Parker, who was a bridesmaid at her wedding, and Sandra Carruthers, who presented the bride with a lucky horseshoe.

Her husband, James, has a brother John, who stays in Gourock, and a sister Nan Miles, who also was a bridesmaid, who lives in Canada.

The couple have very close friends, Anne and Billy Elliott, who they have visited in Canada many times. Sadly, Anne and Billy and James" sister Nan and her husband are unable to come over from Canada.

James was an amateur football referee in the early days of the couple"s marriage and Jeanette has always been a keen knitter.

Daughter Yvonne told me her mum is rarely seen without knitting needles in her hands.
