INVERCLYDE is to hold a beacon lighting ceremony to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the council has announced.
This year Her Majesty The Queen becomes only the second monarch in British history to celebrate 60 years on the throne, and as part of the celebrations 2,012 beacons will be lit across the UK. Her Majesty will light the National Beacon on Monday 4 June.
Councillors have agreed the local beacon will be on Lyle Hill in Greenock, right.
It will be lit at 10.24pm on 4 June, in line with the other beacon lighting events in Scotland, with Provost Michael McCormick and council chief executive John Mundell leading the ceremony.
Inverclyde Council is also taking part in a service to mark both the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and Armed Forces Day on 21 April. The service will be jointly hosted by Inverclyde, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire councils.
The Queen's Jubilee Flag will also be flown by the council between 2 and 5 June and a public floral display will be put in place in Inverclyde to mark the occasion.
