A NEW website on the people and heritage of Inverclyde has been created by users of the Watt Library in Greenock.
Members of the Union Street facility formed a heritage group and have now successfully launched their own internet research tool.
The site covers a broad range of events and people from Inverclyde's history to the present, including content on wartime, local people and industry.
Members meet every Friday to plan, write and post new stories onto the site.
Sean McNamara, learning services librarian, hopes that people will be inspired by the website to join the group and delve into the past.
He said: "On the website there are a lot of stories on well known local people including James Watt, William Quarrier and other influential figures.
"There is stuff on local industry, the Watt Library itself and many other areas of Inverclyde's history.
"Some areas don't have as much content as others and we are looking for new ideas and suggestions from people who may want to contribute.
"The plan is for the group to continue to grow the website and for it to be a useful resource for the people of Inverclyde for many years to come." Margaret Brennan, a member of the heritage group, told the Tele how much she had enjoyed being part of the project and sharing experiences. She said: "We all have our own topics that we cover but we swap ideas and help each other on certain aspects.
"I've learned a lot on the technical side, like inserting pictures into the site.
"Everyone is really friendly and always looking out for each other, and we've all become friends now." The heritage group website can be found at www.inverclydeheritage.org.uk
