A TOP young actor from Kilmacolm has added another award to his ever-expanding trophy cabinet - just as he finished filming a movie with famous American singer and actor John Mayer.

Declan Laird, 19, who is originally from Greenock, was named best actor at the recent Raptor Filmz 2012 awards held in Glasgow, for his role in short film The Lost Purse.

The competition honours the best Scottish short films and the awards bash was held at the city's Grosvenor Cinema, hosted by Gregory's Girl and City Lights actor Dave Anderson.

This is the second top actor award the former Morton under-19 footballer has picked up for his role in the flick.

In September, the teenager was named the Write Camera Action Independent film awards' best male actor 2012.

Declan, who has featured in River City, was unable to accept the Raptor award himself because he is currently working through a two-year scholarship at the world-renowned Stella Adler Acting Academy in Hollywood.

The young actor was also finished filming another movie, Lost Angels, in Los Angeles, with the title due for release next June.

It stars John Mayer and is directed by award-winning film maker Stan Harrington.

Speaking from LA, Declan told the Tele: "It was a great experience and I learnt so much from the other cast members.

"I didn't have a scene with John Mayer but did get to spend time with him - he's a very lively individual.

"Getting the Raptor award was great and a real surprise.

"I've got another couple of things in the pipeline coming up including being asked to be the lead character in an independent film." Declan's parents picked up the award on their son's behalf.

His proud dad John said: "The award was for male and female actors and we were very pleased he won, we still can't believe it to be honest."
