Man breached bail A SHERIFF has warned a Port man he will be thrown into jail if he misses any instalment of a fine - being paid at just �4 a week.

Anthony Graham, 61, was handed a �300 fine for breaching bail conditions on 17 December last year.

He admitted being in the company of a woman in Ashgrove Lane, Port Glasgow, when his bail conditions instructed him not to approach or contact her.

Greenock Sheriff Court heard it was his THIRD breach of bail and that it was committed while already on a deferred sentence for another bail offence.

Graham, of King Street, was ordered to pay the penalty at a rate of �8 a fortnight.

Sheriff Derek Hamilton said: "If you miss any one instalment of �8 a fortnight you will go straight to prison."
DJ hit outside club A DJ suffered a fractured cheekbone when he was punched outside the Loreto Club in Greenock at the weekend.

The 45-year-old was assaulted in Houston Street at around 1am on Sunday by two men.

The victim had been DJing at the club and was getting into a taxi when the unprovoked assault took place.

He was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital and later released, but will need further treatment.

Detective Inspector David Wagstaff, of Greenock CID, said: "We are reviewing CCTV and are appealing for anyone in the area who may have witnessed this unprovoked assault to come forward." Ban man used phone A PORT man who is banned from driving was caught behind the wheel using a mobile phone.

Steven Pettigrew, 28, was spotted by police officers in Weir Street, Port Glasgow, on Friday.

He appeared from custody at Greenock Sheriff Court on Monday to admit charges of driving while disqualified and using a hand held mobile phone.

He also pled guilty to possession of valium, a Class C drug, while at Greenock police office on the same date. Pettigrew, of School Court, Jean Street, was released on bail and will be sentenced next month.

Man denies PC headbutt A GREENOCK man has been remanded in custody after allegedly attempting to headbutt a policeman.

Gary Bradley, 27, was refused bail when he appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court on Monday to plead not guilty to a total of four charges.

He is accused of refusing to leave the James Watt pub in Cathcart Street on 3 August when asked by female duty manager.

Bradley is then alleged to have behaved in an aggressive manner by shouting and swearing in Dalrymple Street.

He is also charged with attempting to headbutt a male police officer and resisting arrest by three officers by struggling violently and refusing to be handcuffed.

Depute fiscal Kevin Doherty opposed a motion for bail from Bradley's solicitor Ellen Macdonald.

He told the court that Bradley was already on bail at the time of the alleged offence as well as having other matters waiting to be dealt with.

Bradley, of Kylemore Terrace, will appear from custody when matters continue later this month.


Road report TWO Port councillors hit the road in their ward to inspect the conditions for motorists.

Councillors James McColgan and Stephen McCabe were out and about in ward one on Monday evening.

Their findings will be used to prepare a report for roads bosses.

Mr McColgan said: "Our findings will be submitted to the roads department for consideration as part of the planning for the 2014/15 capital investment in roads."
Clear-up of Belville flats CONTRACTORS are continuing the big clear-up at the former Belville Street high rise flats site.

The local community now have all their plans in place for the new garden that will be developed on the land where the tower blocks once stood.

It is hoped the ground will be ready for a formal handover later this month.

Belville Community Association chairwoman Alice McCaughey said: "We have been taking part in lots of consultations and meetings. The workers are doing a great job but there have been a few hold-ups."
Patient charged with theft A HOSPITAL patient has been charged with stealing a wallet at Inverclyde Royal.

The 30-year-old man from Port Glasgow allegedly took the item, belonging to another patient, at 2.45am on Sunday. Police arrested the man and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
