A GRANT of £500 has been awarded to the Waterfront Junior Curling Club. It came from the Grants to Voluntary Organisations fund of Inverclyde Council. It comes at a time when this increasingly successful young club is expanding its membership and competing in events in many other parts of the country with the resultant transport and accommodation costs placing additional financial burdens on the parents of the enthusiastic young players.

Jim Stables, vice-chairman of the club, said: “The club is very grateful to Inverclyde Council for awarding us this vital injection of cash. We are continually looking for ways in which to generate funding to ensure that our skilled young curlers can realise their full potential. Apart from helping parents with essential costs, this money will be used to purchase tamper-proof notice boards and part-fund a dedicated curling equipment storage area in the Waterfront Leisure Complex. “There is no doubt this extra funding does make a huge difference to the success rate of our club — as clearly demonstrated last weekend when a team of four of our members won the RCCC Skills Awards Challenge in Perth.

“The club’s gratitude is extended to our fundraiser, Jean Anderson for her tenacity and determination.”
