GREENOCK golfer Chris Doak suffered a nightmare Sunday as he slipped to last place on the final day of the Africa Open 2014 yesterday.

Chris shot an agonising THIRTEEN over par round of 84 to finish on 287 and three over par for the tournament.

His round got off to a terrible start when he took eight at the opener.

He got one shot back on the third hole but another trauma was soon to follow, at the sixth, where he took nine.

A birdie at the next proved to be a brief moment of respite, with five more dropped shots still to come before the misery was complete.

Doak’s day to forget meant he was five shots adrift of the field at the foot of the leaderboard.

The disastrous finish to the tournament in the Eastern Cape was made all the more galling by what had gone before.

The 36-year-old local had gone into the weekend in decent shape, making the cut with room to spare following rounds of 69 and 67.

He built on those foundations with another 67 on Saturday which had him sitting at -10, his performance giving no hint of the torture which was looming around the corner.

The trophy was won by Thomas Aiken who came out on top in a play-off with Oliver Fisher.

They had been locked on -20 at the end of the final round, with the South African edging the shoot-out to triumph on home soil.
