FIFTEEN staff at a Greenock call centre have lost their jobs, the Tele can reveal.

The back office staff at EE were made redundant at the end of a lengthy consultation process which we first revealed details of late last year.

As well as the redundancies, other employees have been redeployed elsewhere within the business.

Bosses at the mobile giant said the redundancies at their Cartsburn site, pictured, came about due to ‘changes in the structure of back office support functions’.

They stressed that most of the employees who were affected by the review had been retained by the company. A spokesman said: “Following a consultation period towards the end of last year at a number of our contact centres across the UK, including Greenock, the majority of the employees involved in the process were redeployed elsewhere within the business. A small number of redundancies were made.” In December, the Tele reported how staff had been left in the dark about the situation, a full month after the consultation had been expected to end.

A spokeswoman said at the time that jobs could still be saved.

In January, the firm announced it would hire 20 new sales advisers as it stepped up its roll-out of the ‘super fast’ 4G network for customers.

EE was formed in 2010 after T-Mobile and Orange merged.

Staff at the busy Greenock call centre, which employs over 600 people, escaped hundreds of job cuts which came about as a result of the merger.

The centre at Cartsburn is seen as a key employer for Inverclyde.
