ROWDY teens have turned Inverkip beach into a no-go area for families according to a furious Kip Marina resident.

She says that booze-fuelled youths have been urinating, defecating and ‘shouting and bawling’ at the coastal beauty spot.

The claims come from a 39-year-old female resident who claims the behaviour is so intimidating she could not give her name to the Tele.

She hit out after we recently reported how a parent in the main village said that Marina residents who had complained to the police were trying to deny young people their rights to a public place.

The infuriated mum-of-two said: “This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

“I don’t let my 16-year-old daughter go there on her own or with a friend when these crowds are here. It’s too dangerous.

“Something needs to be done because it’s unfair to the people living here and for decent families who have to come off the beach because the language is so atrocious.

“There are teenagers running riot, shouting, bawling, screaming, swearing and using sexual language — it’s all really offensive.

“They are urinating on the beach and defecating in the rocks and jumping in the marina.

“There were teenagers at the beach with their booze lined up on the rocks.” Last month, Sergeant Allan O’Hare of Greenock police told the Tele they had ‘constantly’ received reports of bad behaviour from Kip Marina residents and that the area was ‘policed regularly’.

A community councillor is now encouraging Marina residents to attend meetings where they can voice concerns to local police officers.

Eileen Virtue, chair of Inverkip and Wemyss Bay Community Council, said: “We would call for all beach users to be considerate of residents and clean up after themselves.

“The beach and coastal path has been used by the public for many years and we want it to continue to be a great place for everyone in the future.

“No one wants to put too much of a downer on the kids, if they are enjoying the beach then that’s fine.

“It’s when they are coming back up at night through the village for the last train — it’s a bit noisy and rowdy.

“We’ve had a few complaints brought up with police about behaviour on the train.

“Big groups can be quite intimidating without meaning to be.” The next meeting of the Inverkip and Wemyss Bay community council is at 7pm on Thursday 4 September at Inverkip Primary School.
