A WOMAN has appeared in court following the recent death of Port woman Charlene Lever — and stands accused of moving and hiding her body.

Gillian Wilson, 25, is alleged to have moved and concealed the body of the 21-year-old in a Port Glasgow flat after finding her remains.

The charge states that Wilson did ‘falsely represent’ to two police officers on 31 July that Ms Lever had left her home at 6.45pm on Friday 18 July ‘to meet an Asian male on Glasgow Road’.

It states: “The truth being that, having discovered that Charlene Lever, now deceased, had died, you did move her body and conceal it within a ground floor flat at 6 Clune Park Street and pretend to officers that you had no knowledge of the true whereabouts.” The charge further adds that Wilson, of Clune Park Street, caused police officers ‘to devote their time and services’ in an investigation to look for Ms Lever, who was presumed missing, and caused others to be made liable to ‘suspicion and accusation of involvement’ in her death.Ms Lever, who lived in nearby Highholm Street, was reportedly last seen by a relative on 17 July in the town’s Wallace Street.

A missing person appeal for information regarding her disappearance was circulated by the police.

The discovery of Ms Lever’s body on Thursday 31 July came just days after worried friends spoke out in a bid to raise the profile of the search.

They had described her disappearance as completely out of character.

When Ms Lever’s body was found, police said they were treating her death as suspicious.

Wilson appeared in private on petition at Greenock Sheriff Court yesterday afternoon.

She made no plea or declaration and was granted bail.

The case has been continued for examination and Wilson is expected to appear in court again next week.
