A BOOZY heroin addict flew into a rage and violently struggled with four police officers after being refused methadone in a Greenock chemist shop.

Troubled Kirsty Findlay launched a foul-mouthed 20-minute rant within the McDade’s pharmaceutical outlet in Belville Street last Saturday morning.

The mum-of-two — who must remain drug-free in order to be allowed to see her children — told an attendent that she would have to ‘jag’ her groin with heroin again.

Findlay, 30, also told the staff member: “If I lose my kids I’ll kill myself — and it’ll be your fault.” The ugly incident — which included Findlay striking a display stand — erupted after she was asked to take a breathalyser test in the shop.

Prosecutor Lindy Scaife told Greenock Sheriff Court: “Methadone is not handed over to a recipient if the person is intoxicated.

“The accused asked if she could return later and was told that this would not be possible.

“She then became abusive and began shouting and swearing.

“She was asked to calm down and the reason for the refusal to dispense the methadone was explained to her.

“The accused continued in an aggressive manner for a further 20 minutes. Police had to be called.” The court heard how Findlay, of Prospecthill Court, was taken to Greenock police office, where she refused to be searched.

Fiscal depute Ms Scaife said: “Within a cell at Greenock police office, the accused struggled violently with four officers.

“Two police officers fell to the ground during attempts to restrain her.” Defence lawyer Gerry Keenan told the court that his client’s children are currently in the care of her sister, who was in court to support her.

Mr Keenan said: “Miss Findlay had been drinking the night before and thought that there would be no problem in receiving her medication.

“When she realised she would not be getting her 100ml dosage of methadone she wondered if she could refrain from reverting back to controlled drugs.

“She must stay off of drugs to have any chance of a lasting relationship with her children.” Sheriff Ian Fleming granted Findlay bail and deferred sentence for background reports.

He warned her: “If you breach the conditions of bail you will be brought back here and dealt with – and with your record that might well be custody.” Findlay will be sentenced on 10 December.
