PINT-SIZED performers are getting ready to bring Greenock Town Hall to life with their terrific talents during the Inverclyde Music festival.

With only days to go before the spectacular two-week event starts, around 1,700 children across the area are holding last minute rehearsals before they take to the stage to show-off their singing, instrumental, dancing and speaking skills.

Festival president Isabel Lind says this year’s show will be bigger and better than ever with an exciting new twist to the programme.

For the first time, there will be a two-day ‘Singing Games Spectacular’ for primary one, two and nursery children.

Mrs Lind told the Telegraph: “I’m always excited about the music festival as it’s a fantastic platform for the children to showcase their talents.

“This year we have a new venture, the ‘Singing Games Spectacular’ event.

“This competition has become so popular over the years that the committee were concerned about health and safety issues as it was so busy with crowds of people gathering.

“So we have decided to spread it out over two days to make it more enjoyable.” A new highly experienced adjudicator has also been drafted in to judge the competition.

Mrs Lind added: “Rana Keane from Largs will adjudicate on both days.

“Rana is an expert in drama and music and has been involved in education for a very long time which is why we called upon her.” This year will see a festival first as audiences see pupils from Craigmarloch School take to the stage for an exclusive performance.

Mrs Lind said: “That will be very special as they will be performing as a new school, we’re delighted that they are taking part.” Over the years, the music festival has gone from strength to strength.

It marked its 100th birthday last year in style after it received the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

The event begins on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 January with the Singing Games Spectacular before the official opening on Monday 26 January.

It will end on Saturday 7 February with a special concert featuring some of the winning acts.
