The hitman, who scored 30 goals in 66 appearances for the Cappielow club between 2011 and 2013, was released by Dundee this evening.
MacDonald, 34, is expected to sign a year-and-a-half long deal, which will see him combine playing duties with a coaching role.
And the Tele understands that although paperwork has not yet been completed, the 34-year-old will feature as a trialist in tomorrow's match at Stenhousemuir.
