TOTS got stuck in and ran about as part of a special week of healthy activities.

Youngsters at Wellpark Nursery in Greenock enjoyed Zumba and football and tickled their tastebuds with exotic fruits.

The nursery class even got their very own supermarket sweep to find out about different types of food and how they are made.

The event was part of the nursery’s Health and Wellbeing Week, which also included a visit by parents.

Depute head of centre Anne-Marie Cunningham said the children had a fabulous week.

She said: “The Graffiti Dance Troupe came in to teach dancing and the Morton Community Trust did football coaching.

“They’ve been coming in for the last six weeks and it’s been such a fantastic experience. The children’s skills have improved so much. It’s made a real difference in the children’s ability.” The toddlers were invited to Tesco where they received a guided tour by a store community champion who talked about how different foods were made. They then got the chance to sample all sorts of fruit and fish.

Anne-Marie said: “They had an absolutely brilliant time. The children have been raving about the visit.” Back at the nursery they got the chance to make smoothies and plant potatoes with their mums and dads then hit the dancefloor with a bit of Zumba.

Tooth brushing tutorials were held to keep their pearly whites clean.

Anne-marie said: “On Wednesday parents were invited to learn about being healthy along with their children to improve wellbeing and how to promote health with their own children.

“It was a chance for them to see what their children are doing and to get involved.

“Educationally, the of this is lifelong and will help them stay healthy for the rest of their lives.

The supermarket also donated soup bags to encourage parents to make their own soup at home, and other fresh food.
