Bosses at the fast food giants are staying tight-lipped about details of the development at the former Clydeport petrol station off the A8 but today confirmed they are looking into the opportunity.

They’ve also revealed that a new drive-through, if it gets the go-ahead, would mean a significant jobs boost for the area.

Around 25 team member positions could be created, plus a number of management roles.

The Tele revealed on Friday how builders could be on site as early as November with a spring 2016 completion date mooted for the project.

It comes after plans were officially lodged with Inverclyde Council by developers seeking permission to build a drive-through restaurant on the Greenock Road site with 29 car parking spaces.

A spokeswoman for Burger King said: “We are currently looking into this opportunity but have no further information to share at this stage.

“An average restaurant employs about 25 team members plus managers.” Eric Thomson, of Thomson Property Consultants, is involved with the project, working on behalf of developers Raphaelston Holdings Limited.

He says if all goes well the new Burger King could open even earlier.

Mr Thomson said: “There are two main hurdles.

“There is the planning consent — but there’s been reasonable feedback from pre-application discussions — and the final sign off of the site by ExxonMobil.

“Once these two things happen that allows my client to build out the shell unit and the Burger King franchise would move in and fit it out.

“We’re probably not going to see a Burger King there until early next year — February possibly.

“I’ve been working on this project for quite a long time so I will be glad to get it done and dusted.”
