Scott MacFarlane, 25, is accused of viciously attacking another man at a house in Carwood Street on Saturday night.
He is alleged to have punched and struck the man on his head with a bottle before pinning him to the floor.
It is alleged that MacFarlane struck the man on the head, neck and body with a knife to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
A charge against him alleges that he ‘did attempt to murder’ the man. MacFarlane is further charged with striking another man on the head with a knife at Carwood Street.
He is also accused of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at Inverclyde Royal Hospital by repeatedly shouting and swearing.
Police were called to a serious incident at Carwood Street at around 10.30pm on Saturday night.
A 30-year-old man was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where his condition is described as stable.
Accused MacFarlane made no plea or declaration through defence lawyer Aidan Gallagher during a brief private hearing yesterday. Sheriff Iain Fleming remanded him in custody.
MacFarlane, of Greenock’s Bow Road, is due back in court week.
