A FORMER Greenock schoolteacher turned TV executive has announced he is stepping down from his role working on Doctor Who.

Steven Moffat, who worked at Cowdenknowes High, will quit as lead writer and producer of the hit BBC series.

He took over the reins in 2010 and during his tenure the show has become a global success.

Steven has been responsible for introducing the 11th and the 12th doctors in Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi.

He said it ‘felt odd’ to be leaving.

Steven, who also co-created BBC series Sherlock, will be replaced by the man behind award-winning ITV drama Broadchurch, Chris Chibnall.
