FIVE Inverclyde bands have joined the line-up for a major music festival in Greenock next month paying homage to the likes of the Stone Roses, Bon Jovi and Oasis.

Organisers of the second annual Fake Festival at the Battery Park have announced that local acts The Sinsheimers, Less Than Sober, The Allies, girl group Beautiful Expectations and soloist Harvey Bunsen will join headliners The Total Stone Roses, Bon Jovi Experience and Oasish on the bill.

The full-day event takes place on Saturday May 14 from 12.30pm right through until 11pm.

Last year’s festival was the first to be held in Scotland and was a sell-out with over 1,000 people enjoying live music throughout the day including tributes to U2 and The Jam.

Local organiser Ian Dyer, from Inverclyde Leisure, is hoping for another packed event and is delighted that Fake Festival is giving top local talent the chance to shine.

He said: “Fake Festival is a community event and it was successful last year and gave five local bands an opportunity and that’s what it’s about, giving local bands a chance to perform and also to encourage families to come along because it’s a family event.

“The Sinsheimers opened the festival last year and they’ve played the likes of King Tut’s.

“They have sort of moved up the tree to being headline support this year. There’s also an opportunity for four others bands to showcase their music. The quality is really high - all five acts.”

He is also excited about the calibre of the tribute bands taking to the stage.

They are all based in the UK and have been described as ‘world class’.

Ian said: “They look the part and more importantly they sound the part.

“Anyone who experienced the festival last year knows that it’s about quality.”

The frontman of The Bon Jovi Experience has actually performed alongside the real Jon Bon Jovi himself and all three bands have toured extensively across the UK and Europe.

Fake Festivals founder Jez Lee said: “I have seen many tribute bands across the globe perform, and none match up the ones I have found here in the UK.

“All the tribute bands we use are booked round the world to perform, illustrating their great demand, and they are also highly recommended and endorsed by the real thing, so we feel very lucky that they are able to add us to their gig dates.”

Tickets, priced £22 for adults and £11.50 for children aged 10-17, are on sale now at www.fakefestivals.co.uk and at the Battery Park pavilion.
Under-nines go free with a paying adult.
