GOLDENHILL AFC suffered final heartache in the West of Scotland Amateur Cup Final as Kilmarnock side Shortlees FC lifted the trophy with a 2-1 win at Hamilton Accies’ New Douglas Park.

The teams couldn’t be separated at half-time as they went into the break level at 1-1.

The match swung Shortlees’ way in the 68th minute when they were awarded a penalty which was duly converted.

Gowdie threw everything at Shortlees in search for an equaliser but came up short.

But they can look back on their cup run with pride after negotiating some difficult ties on route to the final of the second biggest cup competition in the region.

Gowdie took some sizeable scalps by despatching Bannockburn in the last 16 and Hurlford in the quarter-finals. both those wins came after penalty shoot-outs thanks to some heroics from goalkeeper Scott Rennie.

Their biggest result was in the semi-final when they defeated the much-fancied Colville Park 2-1 thanks to goals from Marc Morrison and Danny McKenna.
