A KITCHEN was destroyed in a flat fire in Greenock last night.
Firefighters rushed to the blaze on the top floor of a block in Belville Street at 6pm.
The occupier was out at the time when the fire started.
They evacuated neighbours from the close while they tackled the blaze.
Crew manager Graeme Hepburn said: “The occupier, who is on his 20s, was shocked when he arrived home. He asked if he could get back in but there was no way he could. The kitchen was destroyed. It appears the fire started in a cupboard.”
Three appliances from Greenock attended, led by watch manager Eddie Gallagher.
Greenock fire station confirmed it was accidental and landlord River Clyde Homes have been informed.
