A GOUROCK pensioner says some cyclists need to take more care on busy streets in the town.
Edward Gilmartin, 89, claims he was hit in the chest by a man on a bike while he was standing at a bus stop in Albert Road.
He says a cyclist came ‘flying’ along the road and struck
him while he was waiting for a bus.
The senior citizen says the impact was bad enough to knock the man off his bike, and claims that he left the scene straight away.
He told the Tele: “I looked out for the bus coming and a cyclist hit me on the chest then crashed onto the road with his bike on top of him.
“He made off before I could say anything.
“He could have been killed himself because the bus was coming.”
The OAP says a lot of elderly people live in Albert Road and he feels cyclists going along there could be more considerate.
Mr Gilmartin said: “Pedestrians should have the right of way.”
He is also worried about the risk of collisions on Lower Kempock Street, where a cycle path runs right beside the public footpath.
Mr Gilmartin is registered blind and says he is now fearful when is out and about as a result of the incident he was involved in.
He said: “Over the years many people have complained about these cyclists.
“Your life is in someone else’s hands.”
