DETECTIVES are hunting a firestarter who torched a car parked outside a house in Kilmacolm early this morning.
The red-coloured Suzuki was sitting in the village’s Wateryetts Drive when it was set alight shortly after 2am.
It is understood police are keen to trace a man aged between 40 and 50 who is said to have been ‘loitering’ at 1am near a roundabout close to where the incident took place.
Detective Inspector David Wagstaff said: “The owners had parked and secured the vehicle on the street.
“It was last seen to be undamaged at 1am when one of the householders went to bed. The person was awakened at 2.15am by the smell of burning and looked out to see the vehicle ablaze.
“The fire service attended and extinguished the flames before determining that the fire was wilful. Enquiries are ongoing and we’d ask anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously, or anyone who may have captured something on CCTV, to come forward.”
