AN award-winning design by a Langbank Primary pupil is helping Tesco raise money for local charities.

Ewan Gilmour’s ‘I Love Port Glasgow’ artwork is emblazoned on limited edition hessian bags for sale in the firm’s Port store.

So far the branch has raised £76,000 for local good causes, and they want to use the bag to boost their funds further.

Port Glasgow Tesco invited local school children to take part in the bag art competition.

Tesco customer experience manager Kerris Jones, who presented Ewan with his prize, said: “We had a fantastic response to the drawing contest, however it was Ewan’s design that really stood out for us.

“It is very colourful and looks amazing on the bags. I’d like to congratulate him.

“We would also like to say a big thank you to every pupil that entered the competition.

“We really enjoyed looking through the entries and it was great to see all of the creative drawings highlighting what the youngsters love about Port Glasgow.”

Ewan won his class a junior chef’s academy workshop session, while he was also presented with a gift card. Pupils were also given a bag each to keep.

In the last year the store has raised money for charities including Port Glasgow’s Old Men’s Club, Inverclyde Children in Poverty and Ardgowan Hospice.

Langbank Primary School acting head teacher Simon Cundy said: “We were delighted that Ewan won the competition in which he designed a picture featuring the ship sculpture that is a focal point of Port Glasgow.

“We are all very grateful to Tesco for their generous prizes, especially the chef experience for all of our children to take part in and enjoy.

“We thank Tesco for being so supportive of one of their local primary schools.”

Port Glasgow Tesco’s are selling the bag for £1 and all monies will go to charity.
