SHETLAND boatbuilder Malakoff of Lerwick has won a £200,000 contract to build a replacement ferry to serve the island of Kerrera.

The ferry, which will operate the “lifeline” route between Kerrera and the Gallanach south of Oban, will be built in Lerwick after the contract was awarded by Caledonian Maritime Assets.

The vessel is due to be delivered to Calmac Ferries in Oban in August.

The 12-metre-long vessel will be called MV Carvoria and will replace the existing ferry, MV Gylen Lady.
