SCOTTISH stand-up star and renowned wind-up merchant Des McLean will celebrate a decade of entertaining Inverclyde audiences with a one-off gig.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the multi award winning comic’s first Greenock show at the old Arts Guild in 2007.

He enjoyed it so much, he recorded his live stand-up DVD, ‘Talking Aboot’, in the same venue the following year in front of a full house.

Another sell-out show in the Arts Guild was the critically acclaimed, ‘I Tommy’, where Des played the lead role of the firebrand politician Tommy Sheridan.

When the Campbell Street theatre closed in 2013, the comedian’s love affair with Greenock continued at its replacement - the Beacon - and it was the first venue for his 2014 hit ‘The A-Z of Scotland Tour’, followed by more live comedy shows.

To celebrate 10 years of performing to Inverclyde audiences, Des will be back on stage at the waterfront venue next Friday night for a special show and he can’t wait to return.

He said: “I’ve always said Greenock is one of my favourite nights on the tour, always a brilliant crowd, down to earth, and really up for a great night out.”

The comedian, TV and radio presenter, event host and actor, is in demand both throughout the UK and across the world and has recently toured Australia, New Zealand, Canada and America, where he played the iconic Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas.

Famed for his comedy sketches, Des won three prestigious Sony Radio Awards during his time at Radio Clyde and also boasts the accolade of being Billy Connolly’s favourite comedian.

Des McLean One Night Only is on at the Beacon next Friday at 8pm.
