CHRISTMAS came early for the iconic Wemyss Bay Railway Station after it took centre stage in a new festive TV advert.
The station – recently given a £4m revamp – is the setting for mobile giant Vodafone’s advert ‘A Christmas Love Story’, which features Hollywood star Martin Freeman.
A spokeswoman for the phone company said they thought the picturesque station was the perfect setting for it.
She told the Telegraph: “We were delighted to be able to film this heart-warming story in such a beautiful location.”
In the first part of the phone network’s Christmas love story series, Martin - who stars in BBC’s Sherlock, festive film Love Actually and The Hobbit film trilogy - is seen falling for a mystery woman on the station platform – as she watches the movie ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’.
The pair lock eyes as Freeman quotes the famous line ‘I’ll give you the moon, Mary’, to which the woman replies: ‘I’ll take it. Then what?’
The Hobbit star then begins talking to her about the dangers of burning through her data if she watches movies on her phone!
After eventually getting on the train, he is seen berating himself for bringing up mobile phone data, before the mystery woman appears at the window with her phone number.
The second part of the commercial, is set to be aired this week.
This is not the first time that Wemyss Bay station has hit the headlines in recent months.
Earlier this year a bronze statue of a schoolboy heading for a holiday ‘Doon the Watter’ was unveiled at the station.
Friends of Wemyss Bay Station commissioned the piece by Angela Hunter, the artist behind the popular Wee Annie on a Suitcase statue in Gourock.
