DETECTIVES are investigating a potential serious assault after a man was found with a gash to the back of his head in a Greenock street early in the morning.
The injured 23-year-old raised the alarm with a resident of Sir Michael Street at around 7am yesterday and later received emergency treatment at hospital.
A spokeswoman for Greenock CID said: "The man had a laceration to the back of his head and received treatment at Inverclyde Royal before being allowed home.
"We have spoken with residents but it appears that none of them heard or saw any disturbance in Sir Michael Street.
"We'd ask anyone who may have witnessed an incident around that time yesterday to contact us on the 101 number."
