POLICE have launched a probe after the body of a pensioner was discovered within a Greenock flat.

The death of the 78-year-old man is being treated as 'unexplained'.

He was found dead in a property at Ann Street at 12.20am on Tuesday.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A post-mortem examination has already taken place to establish cause of death but the death is still being treated as unexplained.

"Inquiries into the circumstances are continuing."

The inquiry is being handled by Police Scotland major investigations team.
