THESE pint-sized planters are ‘growing for it’ after receiving donations of bulbs and bags of compost.

The pupils at St John’s Primary School and nursery were thrilled to receive the plant bulbs from Cardwell Garden Centre.

Pauline Walker, who is the primary one class teacher, said: “We encourage our children to appreciate nature and we are aiming to become an Eco School with a Green Flag award.

“Having the bulbs donated and getting the pupils to plant them will help us in our efforts to do this.”

Now the youngsters will get busy placing the bulbs in wooden planters in their playground, so the flowers will create a blaze of colour in a few weeks time.

Bosses at Cardwell Garden Centre have donated plant bulbs to 15 nurseries, schools and community groups in Inverclyde and North Ayrshire.

Paul Carmichael, who is the retail general manager at Cardwell Garden Centre, said: “It was fantastic to see how excited the kids were when we delivered the sacks of bulbs.

“It’s a great idea to teach the youngsters about planting vegetables and flowers at an early age and I’m sure they’ll be watching to see how the flowers are growing.”
