A MAJOR restaurant chain has today been linked with a move into Port Glasgow.

Spicy chicken specialists Nando's have been linked with a move to the town after advertising for staff online.

An assistant manager is being recruited by the company for an unnamed location in the Port.

The restaurant chain has been tipped for the town’s retail park but that has been ruled out by bosses there.

Another possible location could be next door in the Tesco car park, where supermarket chiefs want to build four retail units.

The company has also lodged a planning application to build a McDonald’s drive-through restaurant and a car wash on site.

The Tele contacted Nando’s several times for a comment and Tesco has also been asked for a response but both have yet to reply.

The assistant manager job advert appeared online on Thursday and the prospect of the company moving into the town has sparked excitement on social media.

Last year, one local Nando’s fan launched an online petition pleading with bosses to open up a restaurant in Inverclyde.
Nearly 350 signatures have been collected so far.

The petition says: “The nearest Nando’s restaurant to Inverclyde is located in Braehead, which is a half an hour drive.

“With the Port Glasgow estate opening there hasn’t been a better time for Nando’s to make the move to Inverclyde.

“Please sign this petition to make your voice heard and to bring the UK’s favourite restaurant to Inverclyde.”
