FOUR friends are preparing to take on the Kiltwalk in aid of a local service which helps bereaved children.

Janet Henderson, 39, Marnie Webster, 42, Angela Darroch, 41, and Erica Noone, 43, are set to walk 23 miles on April 29 in aid of the Ardgowan Hospice Butterfly Project.

It helps children between the ages of two and 18 to cope with the difficult times they face following the death of a loved one.

The group, who are known for the Kiltwalk as team Tartan Flutterbys, decided they wanted to raise money for a local cause.

Erica’s daughter also used the Butterfly service a number of years ago following the sad death of her dad Mark, whose life was claimed by Motor Neurone Disease.

The friends, who have been training for the trek, are looking forward to the challenge.

Janet said: “We like a challenge and decided to give it a go as a group.

“We are looking forward to it and confident we will keep each other motivated.

“We wanted to raise money for a local charity and chose the Butterfly Project.

“It helps children and young people and with this being the year of young people it tied in nicely.

“We are training when we can and will have the kids there to support us on the day, so that should keep us going.”

Marnie, who works with CalMac, has her colleagues signed up to support the team.

She said: “We had a dress down day at work and they decided to donate the money to us for our walk, and we are also hoping to have a bake sale as well.”

The friends will be joined by hundreds of others as they leave from Glasgow Green on April 29 and make their way 23 miles across the city before finishing at Balloch.
