A WINNER at last year’s Tele Community Champions gala is urging people to nominate unsung heroes for this year’s competition.
Amy Shearer, 20, was named youth community champ of the year in recognition of her volunteering efforts with a number of local charities.
With nominations for this year’s prizes now open, Amy says the awards are a great chance to recognise people who do sterling work in the area.
Amy said: “When I found out I was nominated for the award last year I was so surprised.
“It was so nice to know that someone had thought of me for the award.”
Our awards honour the people who make Inverclyde such a vibrant and thoughtful place and Amy says she felt privileged to attend the ceremony and hear all about their exploits.
She said: “It was such a lovely event.
“It was really nice to chat to people from the area and hear their stories.
“Everyone came together and it was special. The judging must have been difficult because everyone who attended was so deserving.”
Although Amy still isn’t sure exactly who nominated her for her award she is grateful that they did.
She said: “To win and be recognised was just lovely.
“It was nice to think that people thought that much of me and what I’d done. The awards are amazing – it’s good to have something that recognises all the good work and hard work that people put in.”
With nominations for 2018 open Amy is encouraging people to get involved.
She said: “A lot of people go above and beyond and I’d encourage people to make nominations, there is nothing to lose and it’s great to recognise all the good in the area.”
