MILLIONAIRE businessmen Sandy and James Easdale are the new landlords of a popular Gourock pub, the Tele can reveal.

The bus firm owners have snapped up Monteith's Bar, known locally as Monty's, in Shore Street and say that they will be looking for a tenant to run it.

UK brewers and licensed premises chain Greene King put the premises on the market after failing to find a licensee when it closed last November.

The Tele revealed last week now new owners were poised to seal a deal and now the Easdales - who bought the nearby Old Wherry Tavern last year - have been confirmed as the new owners of Monty's.

Jack Irvine, a spokesman for the Easdale family, said: “Sandy and James are delighted to get the deal over the line for Monteith’s.

"They had been in dialogue with Greene King for several months and discussions took a bit longer than expected but they’re happy the deal has now been finalised to add it to the portfolio they already own."

Mr Irvine says improvement work will be carried out before the bar goes out to let.

He said: "Work will start shortly to give the pub a facelift, without changing the character of the place.

"Then they’ll be looking to agree a lease for someone to run it going forward.

"The family are keen to keep investing where deals can be done and there are plenty more opportunities in the pipeline both locally and nationally.”

Monty's was run by popular publican Alan Sandison for many years.

Mr Sandison sadly lost his brave battle against cancer last year.

He gave up the business in 2016 and someone else took over the reins for a short period before it closed five months ago.
