MANAGER Jim Duffy has left Morton by “mutual consent”.

The club announced they had parted ways with the 59-year-old after four years at Cappielow earlier today.

The Ton boss still had a year left on his current deal after signing a two-year extension last summer.

Just yesterday Duffy said rumours he was to quit the club were “garbage”.

Morton finished seventh this season in the Championship, finishing their campaign yesterday with a 3-0 loss to Inverness Caley Thistle.

And Duffy looks to have paid the price for the club’s poor finish to the season, with only two wins in their last twelve games and slipping out of contention for the play-offs.

A statement on the club’s website said: “Greenock Morton Football Club announce that Jim Duffy has left his position as manager having parted company with the club by mutual consent.

“We would like to thank Jim for his hard work and commitment to the club over the course of his four seasons here at Cappielow and wish him the very best of luck in his future career.

“The board of directors will now focus on identifying and recruiting the right person to take Morton forward.”

The news comes after Douglas Rae stepped down as Morton chairman after 17 years at the club yesterday, with his son Crawford taking over.
