AN ELDERLY woman remains in hospital with a bleed to the brain following a horrific robbery in Greenock.

Police are appealing for information after the 81-year-old was robbed and left lying on the ground at the junction of Inverkip Road and Auchneagh Road.

The pensioner was robbed of her bag, which contained cash, at around 2pm on Friday. She fell to the ground, sustaining a head injury, and remains in Inverclyde Royal Hospital suffering from a minor bleed to the brain.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the "horrible attack" to come forward.

The male suspect is white, of medium build and is thought to be in his 20s. He was described as wearing a tracksuit top with dark sleeves with a light stripe down them and dark trousers.

Detective Sergeant Ross Macdonald said: "This was a horrible attack on an elderly woman and we are appealing for people to come forward.

"We are also keen to see any dashcam footage from motorists who were in the area at the time."
